EMPLOYMENT: WORK AT HOME STUFFING ENVELOPES SCAM

This is a traditional scam which employs direct mailings as well as classified advertising.

These advertisements claim that the recipient can make big money working from home addressing or stuffing envelopes.  Others say the victim can just stuff pamphlets into pre-addressed envelopes bearing appropriate postage.

Often such scams claim that the intended victim can earn $1 per envelope stuffed and that it is easy to make $1,000 to $2,000 a week, working at home, perhaps on a  part time basis.

In some cases, the ads may gain credibility by warning about (competing) schemes which claim to pay $2 - $10 per envelope, suggesting the victim not be fooled by these unethical and misleading claims.

Often too, these ads may stress the need for immediate response and some  provide a "hot line" number with a recording which encourages potential victims not to delay, because there are a limited number of opportunities.

The bottom line here is that such schemes are simply variations of the advance fee scam.  To begin making the $1,000 to $2,000 a week, the victim must purchase a kit, instructions to get started.  These mailings often tout a spurious "satisfaction or money-back guarantee" which reassures the naive and innocent.

While most people would realize that no one could earn this kind of money for such a service, desperate people who cannot obtain a regular job, people with financial problems, disabled folks, single parents and people who cannot work outside their home can be taken in by such scams.  Often, these are the people who least afford to be ripped off.
