"If
you want to know what a tiger is like, look at a cat."
-
Hindu proverb
Cat of The First &
Second Quarters of 2000:
Our Cat of The Quarter
for the first two quarters of 2000, is Skippy,
who seldom goes by his real name, "Skipper". (He
gets this extra time in the spotlight because we got behind updating
this section.)
Skippy
is a very handsome young cat, a lean, muscular black and gray tiger
with distinctive markings. Although he's about two years old,
he still retains the deceptive look and air of innocence.
Skippy
is the son of Leon and Mona. He inherited his handsome
markings from his dad and his friendly disposition from his
mom. Although he was born in a barn he remained with his mom
when she later moved into the farmhouse. His kitten
siblings--Max and Rainee--moved in with Tyler next door.
When Skippy
was younger, Mona was always somewhat overprotective when he played
with other cats and watchful that others didn't eat his food.
However, now that she finally realizes he has grown up, Mona enjoys
hiding under tables and beds and ambushing him as he walks by.
Skippy, of
course, learns fast and does the same with her and Char.
Skippy
is strictly an indoor cat and is content to observe the outside
world through the windows. Although he has no feline
companions of his age to play with, in addition to the strategic war
games he plays with Mona, he also plays more gently with Char and
sometimes spends some quiet moments with Mittens.
Although he gets along with everyone, his hero is Norman, an
experienced and worldly black longhaired cat who spends most of his
time outdoors. When Norman comes in for the night, Skippy
follows him around while Norman tells him of his day's
adventurers. Norman is an exceptionally easygoing and tolerant
cat and never get irritated when Skippy
follows him around and
seems appreciative of Skippy's
assistance when the two
of them work together opening doors that lead to restricted areas.
Skippy's
favorite place to sleep is on a soft blanket on a couch and he is
often joined by Char and sometimes Norman when he naps. Like
Norman, his favorite evening snack is Breyers®
Homemade vanilla ice cream and
the two of them never poach on each other's dishes.
Skippy's
wide-eyed looks of innocence seem to bring a smile to other
cats--and to people, too--and his quiet presence brightens any room.
