SHRINKAGE CONTINUED

According to the National Retail Merchants' Association, an effective CCTV system can cut theft losses by 75% in as short a period as six months.

Grand Rapids franchise owner Bob Hammond stated at a recent association meeting, "Had it not been for the [CCTV} system, I might not be here today."  He explained that when three armed men entered his store intent on robbery, they panicked and ran upon observing the camera.

When Saginaw franchise owner Earl Pegues' life was threatened at his store, the relevant party was picked up by the police and the problem was resolved due to the video system at the store.

In relationship to its effectiveness, the CCTV has to be considered one of the greatest bargains of our times.  Firms which offer leases on such systems have brought the costs down to a point where the franchise owner can consider it economically justifiable.
