PHYSICAL SECURITY SURVEYS

physical survey of each location.  In the headquarters of a large international  business, a survey might contain sections on the protection of proprietary information, multiple levels of access control, various areas of contingency planning, basic--or complete executive protection program development.
Our Security Survey Methodology:
On a typical midlevel survey, we review general information about the company, which we request from the client.  This material will usually include annual reports, in house newsletters, policy manuals, work rules, confidentiality agreement forms, applicant screening procedures, organization charts and product information.  This gives us a basic familiarity with the company, its philosophy and its risks.  The next step is to meet with the client and obtain answers to questions that may have arisen from the review of the material provided, and to determine whether there are any restrictions that would effect our recommendations.  Additionally, a letter is obtained providing twenty-four hour a day access to the facility for the anticipated period of the survey.  Following this meeting, there is generally an on site familiarization day spent, before any drafting of the survey begins.  This provides us with a general feeling of the operation.  Subsequently, the on premises portion of the survey begins with L.P.C., Ltd. Surveyor(s) visiting the property at various hours.
Security Survey Reports:
We do not simply use checklist forms when conducting surveys.  Often, unanticipated exposure not normally covered in surveys is discovered during the course of these projects.  Reports do not follow a particular generic format.  All are original works.  While a survey report for a small apartment complex might be only a few pages long, a comprehensive survey of a large facility will often result in a report running in the hundreds of pages.  We have seen some competitor's reports that, while professional and complete, were structured in a confusing manner where locating areas of interest proved difficult.  To avoid this, our reports contain some redundancy and are indexed in a logical manner.  Areas of concern can be easily found.  Industry wide estimates relating to security surveys show there are typically three hours off premises work devoted to research and report preparation for every hour on site.  We are often able to reduce this time by doing much of the drafting on or near the site.  In many cases in North America we utilize our Mobile Operations Center pictured below.  This self contained unit allows us to bring resources to the facility, conduct on line searches and provides a dedicated office on site, where problems, solutions and preliminary drafts can be processed.  We have found that inputting freshly developed information, significantly reduces time as compared with later working off hastily prepared notes.
