CONTRACT SECURITY AGENCIES

CONSUMER TIPS

QUALIFYING AND CONTRACTING

PREFACE

In most states there are several hundred contract security agencies.  Many of these provide well-trained professional security officers and excellent supervision as well as backup services and support in the event of an emergency.  Many others provide the stereotype, uneducated, unskilled watchmen, whose backgrounds are not necessarily above reproach.  (
I should probably be calling these folks watchpersons to avoid being politically incorrect.  However, it just sounds too stupid.)

While cliches are usually best avoided, the old adage "You get what you pay for," is so real and applicable in the contract security field, that it must be stated.

Many businesspeople make the serious mistake of assuming that all contract services are the same, i.e. elderly minimum wage workers without the education or motivation to get a
decent job.  These are often the same consumers who employ unskilled laborers at rates approaching $20 an hour, but resist a 5 - 7% annual increase for the contract service employees, whose hourly wage is a third of that.

These, predictably, are also the people who have continuous problems with their security services and repeatedly switch to other low cost services using the faulty logic that the next service will be better, but cost no more.  These are often the same type of consumers who complain about the lack of selection and atmosphere at fast food restaurants.

This section of the L.P.C., Ltd. Web Site is not written businesses which want to save money by paying a low rate to for contract security service regardless of the potential risk this presents.  It is written for businesses which desire to, over time, save both money and headaches by instituting effective, problem-free loss control and are willing to pay reasonable rates for a good return on investment with a professional, high quality contract service.
