FIRST AID
It is advisable to require, as a part of the bid specifications, that all officers assigned at the client facility become certified by the American Red Cross in the basic Multi Media Course in First Aid to the Injured.
It is also advisable to require that the officers be trained and certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.).
Many security companies do not charge the client the costs of this training time, others expect the client company to cover the costs of this time. Still others will split the costs with the client. Any of these considerations would be acceptable in regard to the officers initially assigned. However, costs of training and certification of replacement officers assigned in the future would normally be the responsibility of the security service provider.
In cases where only some of the officers are trained and certified, a slight premium over and above the regular rate may be warranted. Re-certification verification should be diaried to insure the continuing protection that this documented training offers. Not only can this training and certification save lives, it additionally offers a measure of legal immunity when an officer's attempts at medical assistance fail.
