I would strongly suggest that when initially calling security agencies to request information and quotes you evaluate how quickly you reach a human being who is knowledgeable and is in a position of authority. Properly used voice mail systems result in almost no delay. However, the temptation for abuse is present and some security management personnel find it hard to resist.
Many security firms, however, have fairly sophisticated voice mail systems that result in excellent communications. Some allow a direct dial to a specific supervisor, but if that person is out or unavailable, the voice mail provides an option to either switch over to a backup or cause the person the caller wants to be reach to be immediately paged.
If, when calling around to request information, you run into excessive delays, confusing voice mail menus, complicated instructions or any other frustration during initial attempts to reach a representative, you should probably cross that firm off your list of prospective vendors. If it is that difficult to reach someone at the service during regular business hours, chances are that connecting with someone during an after hours emergency will prove even more difficult.
