CONTRACT SECURITY AGENCIES

CONSUMER TIPS

QUALIFYING AND CONTRACTING

Some security companies repudiate these organizations alleging that their security businesses are so elite that they wouldn't want to associate with lesser agencies.  Often, however, these companies' real objection is a reluctance to invest in annual dues and a greater reluctance to spend the time to participate in activities beneficial to the industry overall, rather than specifically serving their companies.  These are often businesses which reap the benefits of the legislative efforts of their less voracious competitors, while feeling they have no obligation to contribute to the industry as a whole.  In reality, the security firms which could legitimately claim to be the elite are frequently the ones which participate in association projects and contribute the greatest amounts of time and resources.

There are two major international associations geared for the contract services.  These are:

World Association of Detectives

Council of International Investigators

Despite the somewhat misleading name, many members of the World Association of Detectives derive most of their income from contract security services.  While some foreign members of the Council of International Investigators also handle security services, few North American members are in that business.  The focus of the CII is strictly investigative.

Membership by a contract service in one or both of these international organizations is a definite plus.  However, it is this writers opinion that they have significantly less relevance to the typical day to day security operations than the NCISS and state associations and membership in an international association does not replace the need for active membership in the more applicable groups.
