The
Nigerian Letter Scam is so old it has whiskers and for this reason,
some of these letters are being posted from other countries
including those surrounding Nigeria such as Ghana, Gabon, Sierra
Leone Cote D'Ivore (the Ivory Coast) and the Republic of
Benin. Some 2001 scam letters have even been posted from South
Africa.
Obviously, the true origin of blanket e-mail contacts and broadcast
faxes can be difficult to track down, but some electronic Nigerian
fraud offers have been tracked back to points of origin in the
United States.
Regardless of where these communications are allegedly originated,
the scam is the same--and it is always
a scam. No where in the world are there millions of dollars
stashed in a suspense account just waiting to be transferred to the
account of some lucky recipient of a unexpected get-rich-quick
offer.
